We want to introduce the Old Town Clovis Flea Market. A one-of-a-kind market focused on antique, vintage, repurposed, and handmade goods.” says Julie Gomes, co-producer of the Old Town Flea Market with Karen Chisum, to be held Saturday & Sunday June 8-9th at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds, in Old Town Clovis.

The Old Town Flea Market, a first of its kind in the Central Valley, comes to the Clovis Rodeo Grounds on Saturday & Sunday, June 8-9th. Gates open for sales as early as 8:00 am on Saturday, June 8th, rain or shine.

UC Merced Prepares To Graduate Its Largest Class With Two Ceremonies

This year marks the largest graduating class in University of California, Merced’s history.

More than 900 students are eligible to graduate this year, university officials said.

As a result of such growth, the campus plans to hold two commencement ceremonies with two keynote speakers.

Retired astronaut and engineer Jose Hernandez and acclaimed author and organic farmer David Mas Masumoto will deliver keynote addresses at the eighth commencement ceremonies.

Hernandez will speak to candidates in the schools of Natural Sciences and Engineering on May 18. Masumoto will speak to candidates from the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts on May 19.

“This is an exciting time for our graduates and their families,” said UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland. “Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Masumoto were born in the San Joaquin Valley and embody the same pioneering spirit and passion to succeed that our students emanate.

Today is the Clovis Winter Bluegrass Festival (even though it’s officially Spring now.)

Come enjoy eight hours of music, workshops, vendors and prizes from 12:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.at Clovis Veterans Memorial Building 808 Fourth Street in Clovis across the street from Clark Intermediate School.

Proceeds benefit the Clovis Senior Center. 

Traffic Advisory: Weekend Repairs To Close Highway 59

Rolfe Construction, in partnership with the City of Merced, will be closing

Highway 59 at Gerard Avenue in Merced will be closed for sewer main installation and roadway trench paving starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday through Sunday at 11 a.m.

Gerard Avenue will also be closed between Canal and G Street during this time frame.

Motorists should expect 10-minute delays and should take alternate routes whenever possible.

Rising Country Music Star To Play Merced County Fair

Rising country music star Jason Michael Carroll will play at the 2013 Merced County Fair.

Carroll will perform Friday, June 14, in the fairgrounds' Outdoor Theatre.

The Raleigh, North Carolina native and former marine has written back-to-back Top 5 singles, including “Livin’ Our Love Song,” which was certified as a Gold Mobile Mastertone by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of a half million or more ringtones and ringbacks.

He has kicked off concerts for some of the biggest names in country music including Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, Martina McBride, Sugarland, Brooks & Dunn and Alan Jackson.

The Rhett Walker Band, a Christian alternative/Southern rock group, will perform Opening Day, Wednesday, June 12. The rest of the entertainment line-up for the fair’s run -- Wednesday, June 12 through Sunday, June 16 -- will be announced soon.

This Saturday is the  8th annual Britanny Wilkinson United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) Fundraising Dinner. (KMPH FOX 26 Great Day's Kim Stephens is the night's MC.)

All are invited to this evening at Break the Barriers at 6pm. Tickets are $25 each. There is always an amazing raffle, beautiful silent auction, delicious dinner and special program learning about Brittany and the disease she lived with - a disease few still know about but 1 in every 200 people has a genetic mutation that may lead to mitochondrial disease. 

Mitochondria are in all our bodies, in our cells giving us energy. For those living with mitochondrial disease, which is genetic, that mitochondria doesn’t work right affecting the body in very painful ways.

Clovis East graduate, Brittany Wilkinson lived with this all her 18 years. Amidst her migraines and other debilitating pain, she gracefully raised awareness and funds for others living with this disease.

Merced Recreation Office Offers East Coast Swing, Tango Classes

Merced Recreation Office Offers East Coast Swing, Tango Classes

The City’s of Merced’s Office of Recreation this month will offer East Coast Swing dance classes every Thursday in from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

East Coast Swing is sometimes called the American Swing, the Jitterbug or Jive. Swing, as it is informally called at times, is danced to a variety of music with a wide range of tempos.

A four-week Tango class will be also be offered.

The beginners-level class starts on April 4.

Participants will learn to dance swivels, lunges and more, coordinators of the classes said.

The class will be taught by Glenn and Leanne Rozman, two seasoned dance instructors.

Lessons are from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be followed by a dance party from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to practice what students have learned.

Classes will be held in the ballroom at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th Street, Merced. Cost for both tango and East Coast Swing classes is $16 for the entire session or $5 per class.
