Instructors sought for Merced youth education program

A Merced youth education program is looking for instructor proposals for its summer program.

College for Kids, a three-month academic session where 4th through 8th-grade students learn on the Merced Community College campus, is accepting applications for instructors for its summer 2013 classes.

Coordinators for the program say they are looking for instructors for the “mad science,” archery, marine biology, “around the world math basics,” art, mosaics, “babysitting 101,” music, ceramics, robotics, computers, rock climbing, cooking for kids, “sewing 101,” and  all-ages aquatics classes.

UC Merced to present award to PG&E

The University of California, Merced on Thursday will present Pacific Gas and Electric Company  with its inaugural Vanguard Award.

The award recognizes corporate partners and citizens who have impacted the university's engineering program.

In 2007, PG&E began its six-year partnership with the university that provided the campus with $1 million in grant funding. The money helped support student projects, tutoring, a community garden, a hydration station, travel to national conferences and presentations.

Applications will be accepted for game-day positions at Chukchansi Park

 

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Grizzlies will hold their annual job fair for open game-day staff positions on Saturday, February 2nd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the main concourse at Chukchansi Park.

 

The Grizzlies’ 72-game home schedule will begin on Thursday, April 4th and run through Monday, September 2nd.

 What do people do?

Martin Luther King Day is a relatively new federal holiday and there are few long standing traditions. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background. Some educational establishments mark the day by teaching their pupils or students about the work of Martin Luther King and the struggle against racial segregation and racism. In recent years, federal legislation has encouraged Americans to give some of their time on this day as volunteers in citizen action groups.

Makes Stop In Fresno On February 5th

2010 and 2012 World Series trophies will be on hand at Chukchansi Park

 

           

The San Francisco Giants announced that they will take their 2012 world champions trophy on public tour, including a stop at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno on Tuesday, February 5th. 

 

This will be the second public trophy tour held in the past three years and will feature both the 2012 and 2010 trophies.  The focus of the San Francisco World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America is to share Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., with Giants fans in Junior Giants comm

How Long Are You Contagious?

 

As a general rule, adults with a cold will be able to infect others one day before symptoms appear, and up to five days or so after becoming sick. 

Infants and children are able to transmit these viral infections for seven days or longer. The precise number of days for transmission can vary from person to person, and also depends on the length of the illness.

Those in poor health tend to get sick more easily. Children are also more likely to catch (and transmit) colds.

Cold viruses, abundant in nasal secretions, are mainly transmitted via hands.  When you blow  our nose, touch your face or wipe your eyes, the virus transfers to your hands, and then to whatever or whomever you touch.
