Double Tax Refund For Merced Woman | Business
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The long walk up to Rose Seaborn's Merced home was full of excitement.
"It was exciting. It was like one of those Publisher's Clearing House moments," Teresa Sherman, who prepared Rose's taxes, said.
But this was a Liberty Tax Service moment, part of its "My Refund Story" campaign, where people say what they would do with extra money.
"Last year we came up with this campaign, wanted to hear their stories, and then reward the most deserving of our clients with a doubled refund check," Brittney Wojtaszek, Miss Liberty Tax, said.
Rose submitted her story and won nearly $3,000.
Rose's story is one of struggle, especially since the single mom of three was diagnosed with Lupus ten years ago, leaving her more often than not, paralyzed with pain.
"Just got really dependent on people. It's embarrassing when you're not used to it. Waking up like that was hard, not being able to go to work. I help people out," Rose Seaborn said.
Her job, working with the disabled, proved too much for her body. She hasn't been able to go for almost a year.
Meanwhile, the bills stack up.
"I think I was picked because I've tried. I've tried. I went to school. I've done everything and right now things just aren't happening for us," Seaborn said.
But now they are.
In addition to the check, while we were there, Liberty Tax Service reps surprised Rose again by telling her they were also going to pay the rest of her daughter's college tuition.
So what's Rose plan on doing with the money? She says now that she doesn't have to worry about her daughter's college tuition and books, she'd like to fix her car or upgrade to a more reliable car to help her get to doctors appointments.
